Prof. Mehta is Professor of Neuroimaging & Psychopharmacology and Head of the Neuropharmacology Section in the Department of Neuroimaging at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN).
He is the co-lead for the Neuroimaging Theme of the £65m NIHR-Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre, providing infrastructure support for translational neuroimaging research in mental health and neurosciences.
This is further supported by a grant of £4m for the Clinical Research Facility for experimental medicine and early phase research.
Prof. Mehta is also the Director for the IoPPN Centre for Innovative Therapeutics, which works within Kings College London (KCL) and with external partners to advance and accelerate the development of therapeutics and diagnostics.
His own research focusses on the development and testing of novel therapeutic agents, utilising neuroimaging and cognitive assessment to examine mechanisms of drug action. He has developed assays for screening novel compounds and worked with numerous pharmaceutical companies in delivering these aims. His group have led the assessment of ketamine with neuroimaging at KCL for the past 10 years with over 200 doses.
